Prolonged sedentary behaviors such as sitting have been shown to increase the risk of developing cardiovascular, metabolic and musculoskeletal diseases (i.e Type 2 Diabetes, Osteoporosis). Sometimes we cant help it (whether our job permits time at the desk or sitting in the car) or we just don't know another way.
The average person spends up to 6 hours of sitting with that number reaching higher in adolescents. The thing to reflect on is; if we are sitting for 6 hours a day, knowing the health complications it may present us in the future, how do we change such behaviors?
B.U.S.T - Breaking Up Sitting Time.
B.U.S.T is a simple concept to maximize your movement patterns, reduce the risk of chronic disease development all whilst not jeopardizing your productivity during the day. If you find yourself at the desk for 6 hours of the day, apply the B.U.S.T concept by standing/walking/stretching every hour to reduce muscular aches/pains you may experience now but more importantly for the future.
